What you provide
Choose or take a photo of the meal you want to recognize. A clearer view of the food gives you more to check than an image with hidden dishes, glare or unreadable packaging. In the meal-photo workflow, review whether to send the isolated food area or the full image. The scope you choose for AI is separate from the style of the saved diary photo.
What happens next
Cloud recognition requires eligible access, a network connection and permission for cloud processing. Daily free use and credits apply to eligible tools in compatible app versions; existing Pro-only features stay Pro-only. Review the returned food names and any portion or nutrition information before using them. Similar-looking foods, mixed dishes, sauces and cooking oil can make recognition incomplete. A recognized name does not prove that the ingredients or quantities are correct.
When a photo is not enough
A photo cannot establish an exact weight, uncover every hidden ingredient or certify that food is safe. Missing information should remain missing, rather than becoming a precise-looking total. Use labels, a known recipe or your own measurements when you need to resolve an uncertainty. Do not use this feature to rule out an allergen.
Useful moments to try it
- Get an initial description of an unfamiliar meal, then correct it.
- Compare a recognized dish name with the menu or packaging in front of you.
- Decide whether recognition is useful, or simply keep a local photo diary instead.
