What AI helps with
Ingredients and menus
Identify likely ingredients, dish names, visible menu text, and structured components for review.
Dishes and substitutions
Offer names, meal ideas, cooking directions, or substitutions using the context you choose.
Meals and groceries
Help assemble a meal plan or grocery context from pantry, preferences, and candidate dishes.
General meal patterns
Use aggregate diary statistics for general insights. Individual diary text is not sent for diary insight requests.
Local recommendation scoring and many cooking rules do not require a remote model. Tablumi uses deterministic logic and weighted random selection for core food decisions where possible.
What AI does not do
- It does not guarantee perfect recognition or complete ingredient lists.
- It does not know whether food is fresh, contaminated, expired, or safe to eat from an image alone.
- It does not reliably identify allergens, hidden ingredients, or cross-contamination.
- It does not guarantee prices, quantities, weights, origin, translations, or nutrition accuracy.
- It does not replace your judgment, a restaurant, a dietitian, a clinician, poison control, or emergency services.
- It does not directly modify important saved data without showing a result for review.
What may be processed
The minimum input depends on the feature and route. It can include a photo you select, detected ingredients, a candidate list, recipe context, preference text, meal-plan context, visible menu text, language, feature identifier, and content-free error or reliability information. Diary insights use aggregate statistics rather than individual diary entries.
Where processing happens
Apple on-device
When a compatible Apple model can complete the feature, the request can stay on the device. No Tablumi upload occurs first.
Entitlement-gated route
Private Cloud Compute is used only when the installed build has verified Apple entitlement and the production feature flag is enabled. It otherwise remains off.
User-permitted cloud route
When the selected AI mode permits cloud use and routing chooses it, the app sends the request to a Cloudflare Worker.
Single provider by default
The Worker sends a request to the configured provider for that task. A fallback may be used after a retryable or validation failure.
Automatic prefers a compatible Apple path and may use Tablumi Cloud when Apple processing cannot complete the feature. Apple Intelligence Only blocks Tablumi Cloud fallback. Tablumi Cloud selects the cloud route for supported features.
Cloud providers and routing
Production routing generally uses Alibaba Cloud Qwen for image recognition and DeepSeek for text reasoning. Google Gemini may be used as a fallback when the primary provider is unavailable or its structured result fails deterministic validation. A disabled DeepSeek vision canary can be enabled only by production configuration. The actual provider and model depend on the task and server configuration.
Requests are not intentionally broadcast to several providers in parallel. A fallback is normally invoked only after a primary failure and provider call limits cap the number of attempts. Providers may temporarily retain request data under their configuration and legal terms; Tablumi's own Worker does not persist raw AI photos.
Photo handling
- You select or take a photo.
- The app decides which route is compatible with the feature and your AI mode.
- An Apple on-device route processes without a Tablumi upload; a cloud route sends the selected image only after cloud routing is chosen.
- The result is decoded and checked against a structured schema.
- You review and edit the result before confirming it into Pantry, Diary, or another saved feature.
AI-request images are not written to Worker logs or persisted by the Worker. If you deliberately save a diary photo, that saved asset remains locally and may sync through your private CloudKit database.
Your controls
- Choose Automatic, Apple Intelligence Only, or Tablumi Cloud processing where the current build exposes those modes.
- Avoid photo or cloud features entirely and keep using core local tools.
- Review, edit, or discard recognized ingredients and suggestions.
- Delete saved content, photos, plans, and records; clear all data from Settings.
- Enable or disable iCloud sync separately from Tablumi Cloud AI.
- Read the Privacy Policy and follow the data deletion guide.
Important limits
Packaging text can be mistaken for an ingredient. Reflections and occlusion can hide food. Serving size and weight can be estimates. Suggested substitutions can change allergens, texture, nutrition, cooking time, or food safety. Menu and dish information can be incomplete. Nutrition estimates are general information, not medical measurements or advice.
Always check labels, allergens, storage condition, cooking temperature, expiry, restaurant information, and professional guidance relevant to you.
